I bought a used ThinkPad on Japanese Ebay (メルカリ) and it was cheap (about 150 EUR). It had a Japanese keyboard layout so I bought a US keyboard for replacement on the same website.
I didn’t know the new keyboard has backlit. Throughout my life I almost have never used backlit. I often use my laptops in the dark but I don’t really need any visual cues. I do sometimes get numbers wrong (usually 7, 8 and 9), but they can be fixed easily under one second.
The removal and installation are both very easy. Just pop out the left and right mouse buttons and unscrew the screws beneath them.
